Reader,
TL;DR: I’ve codified what I stand for. JSC is now a certified Benefit Corporation for Good, grounding our work in ethical governance, equity, and measurable impact.

I’ve been thinking about something for years, and at the end of 2025, I finally stopped moving it from week to week on my task list and did it.
Jessica Sato Consulting is now a certified Benefit Corporation for Good.
When I first explored certifications like this, I was drawn to the idea, but traditional B Corp pathways felt prohibitive for a small, advisory-based firm like mine. Then I learned about Benefit Corporations for Good through a colleague and started sitting with it.
For a while.
I didn’t want this to be symbolic. I wanted it to be a structural/foundational piece of my business, and I wasn't sure what that really looked like.
But 2025 clarified something for me.
We are living in a moment where businesses and leaders are revealing who they really are. Some are capitulating to power structures that don’t align with their stated values. Some are being boycotted. Some are quietly walking back commitments to equity, sustainability, or inclusion.
It made me realize I don’t want what I believe to be implied.
I want it codified.
What This Means
Benefit Corporations for Good certification required me to submit documentation and respond to nearly 60 questions across eight core standards:
- Conscientious, ethical leadership
- Transparency
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Environmental responsibility
- Strategic business practices
- Community engagement
- Customer-centered operations
- Life balance and sustainability
It pushed me to evaluate my business honestly and really examine where I'm strong and where I need to improve.
Some of what this formalized for me:
- A triple bottom line approach: people, planet, and profit
- Clear ethical decision-making standards
- Ongoing DEI learning and partner consideration
- A commitment to publish my first impact report by December 2026
- A sustainability statement and manifesto that outlines what we believe
In some ways, nothing changes.
This is how I was already operating, but I believe if you say you stand for something, you should be willing to back it up with evidence.
Governance, Not Just Charity
Governance means decision filters.
When you're clear about what you stand for and where the boundaries are, it shapes everything from who you partner with, where you invest, how you price, how you design client experiences, and what/who you refuse.
I don’t want to be an organization that offsets questionable practices with end-of-year donations.
I want impact embedded in the very foundation and structure of my business.
I believe business can and should be a force for good. We should not have to choose between purpose and profit, and I refuse to participate in a profit-at-all-costs model that ignores people and planet.
Operationalizing Impact
Alongside this governance structure, I am deepening the operational side of impact.
You’ll begin seeing more about my partnership with B1G1 (Buy One Give One).
The idea behind this very cool organization is simple and powerful: everyday business activities generate real-world impact.
Imagine knowing that when someone joins my email list, attends the Social Impact Roundtable, hires me, or when we hit certain milestones, someone’s life gets a little better.
Impact isn’t meant to be an annual afterthought. It's ideally integrated into the rhythm of the business.
This also allows me to continue engaging directly with organizations like Days for Girls and through my board leadership with HeartProfit, aligning governance and action.
Why This Matters to You
If you work with me, or are considering it, this means you're engaging with a business that:
- Has codified its ethical standards
- Operates from a triple bottom line philosophy
- Is committed to transparency and continuous improvement
- Is building infrastructure meant to last
You don’t have to guess where I stand.
If you're a leader navigating consequential decisions, the kind that shape legacy, responsibility, and impact, then you understand why this matters.
You've heard me talk a lot about =building something durable, aligned, and that we can stand behind five and ten years from now. This is the start of it for me.
There will be more to come as I publish our manifesto, sustainability statement, and first impact report this year.
For now, I just wanted you to know this is how I’m choosing to build from here forward, and I'm excited you're here with me.

P.S. In a noisy business landscape, clarity is your differentiator. If you’re building something meant to last, I’d love to hear what you’re anchoring your business to right now. Hit reply and tell me.
