The Scoop: Do you have strength of will?

THE SCOOP

Reader,

All last week I was in Austin, TX supporting athletes, my son included, as they prepared for the National Team Trials in Climbing.

I've written often about elite athletes because they are so dang inspiring!

I love their discipline, their willingness to do hard things, and the way they rise to the challenge when the pressure to show up grows.

I saw that in spades this week. The level of grit and determination every single athlete displayed was so inspiring!

In business, as we work through the day to day, it's easy to grow complacent. I know I've had periods of this over the years. But one of the things that anchors me is what I call Strength of Will. It's made up of:

Commitment - the willingness to do whatever is required. For me, commitment is a binding agreement between my heart, mind, and emotions, and it’s that alignment that propels me forward, even when things are hard.

I believe deeply in my own mission - to equip and empower women to use their skills, expertise, and voice to create opportunities fo themselves and others. I want to do everything in my power to amplify their big ideas in a way that feels deeply aligned and enables them to build a business on their terms on a daily basis.

Discipline is the will to say no to anything that is off the path, that shifts your focus, time, energy, and attention away from what you’re trying to create. There’s no room for distraction.

That's not to say you don't relax or that you have to grind all the time. Balance is important, but at the end of the day, there will always be a reason to not show up, and this is where your discipline has to kick in.

Perseverance is the desire and willingness to stay on the path for as long as it takes.

This week, I watched my son deal with a crushing setback, and yet, his vision and the path he's on does not change. He'll continue to work hard, train hard, and do what's needed to be in peak form for upcoming national and international competitions, even if the way they come about is different than he wanted.

This only happens because these three elements are rooted in deep belief. Belief that the impact you want to create is desperately needed in the world. That you have what it takes to bring it to life.

As a business owner, when you have strength of will, there is no alternative. You know that the work you do, the services you provide, the revenue you're going to generate, and the lives you'll impact is inevitable!

As we navigate the environment around us, how is your strength of will?

How are you anchored in to your mission?

What fears, uncertainties, and doubts do you need to address?

What do you need to do to keep showing up, being visible, and getting your big ideas out into the world?

If you need help or want to chat this through, please grab some time on my calendar. Your voice and ideas matter.
